Terms of Use

Please read these terms before using ClearMyCode. By accessing or using this site, you agree to be bound by them.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using ClearMyCode (the "Site"), you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access the Site.

2. Educational Use Only

ClearMyCode is an educational reference resource. All content — including code descriptions, symptom lists, cost ranges, "safe to drive" guidance, and diagnostic steps — is provided for general informational purposes only.

ClearMyCode is not a substitute for hands-on diagnosis by a qualified automotive technician. A technician can read live data, inspect physical components, review manufacturer technical service bulletins, and verify fault conditions in a way a reference website cannot. Nothing on this Site constitutes professional mechanical advice, creates a mechanic-client relationship, or is intended to replace a diagnostic service from a licensed repair shop.

If you are unsure whether your vehicle is safe to drive, stop driving and have the vehicle inspected. If a warning light is flashing, the engine is misfiring, the vehicle is overheating, or brakes or steering feel abnormal — do not drive. Get professional assistance.

3. No Warranty of Accuracy

We work to keep content accurate and current, but OBD-II behavior varies by make, model, model year, software version, geographic market, and vehicle condition. The same fault code can have different causes and implications across different vehicles.

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

4. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, CLEARMYCODE AND ITS OPERATORS, AFFILIATES, LICENSORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF — OR INABILITY TO USE — THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Misdiagnosis or incorrect repair decisions;
  • Vehicle damage caused by repairs undertaken based on Site content;
  • Personal injury or property damage;
  • Economic losses including cost of unnecessary parts or labor;
  • Loss of use of a vehicle.

TO THE EXTENT ANY LIABILITY IS FOUND, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) $0.00 OR (B) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO CLEARMYCODE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM (WHICH IS LIKELY $0.00 SINCE THE SITE IS FREE).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you in full.

5. Your Responsibilities

  • Verify any diagnostic finding with a qualified mechanic before replacing parts or making repair decisions.
  • Follow manufacturer service procedures and safety guidelines for your specific vehicle.
  • Do not drive a vehicle with a flashing check engine light, significant misfires, overheating, brake or steering abnormalities, or any condition that makes the vehicle unsafe to operate.
  • Observe all applicable road safety laws and regulations.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Scrape, crawl, or systematically harvest content from the Site at a scale that could harm its performance or availability, beyond what search engines do in normal operation.
  • Attempt to probe, test, or exploit security vulnerabilities in the Site or its infrastructure.
  • Misrepresent, republish, or redistribute Site content in a way that implies endorsement by or affiliation with ClearMyCode.
  • Use the Site in any way that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation.

7. Affiliate Disclosure

ClearMyCode does not currently include active paid affiliate links to products or services in production. If affiliate links are added in the future (for example, to OBD scanners, repair tools, exact-fit parts, or service marketplaces), they will be clearly disclosed in accordance with FTC guidelines. Any such disclosure will appear next to the relevant link or recommendation.

8. Third-Party Content

VIN decoder results are sourced from the NHTSA vPIC public API. ClearMyCode does not control, maintain, or warrant NHTSA data. NHTSA records may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate for your specific vehicle. Do not rely on VIN decoder output alone for safety-critical decisions.

The Site may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites.

9. Copyright and DMCA

All original content on ClearMyCode is the property of its respective owners and is protected by applicable copyright law. OBD-II code definitions referenced on this site are based on the SAE J2012 standard; explanatory content is original or licensed.

If you believe any content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice compliant with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to legal@clearmycode.com. Your notice must include: identification of the copyrighted work, identification of the allegedly infringing material (with URL), your contact information, a statement of good-faith belief, and a statement of accuracy under penalty of perjury.

10. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Site shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Contra Costa County, California.

12. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid under applicable law, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible. The remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and ClearMyCode regarding the Site and supersede all prior agreements.
